Cities of Words

About the project

Cities of Words is a research project about Colonial Australian readers and reading. It is conducted by Associate Professor Susan K Martin and Dr Kylie Mirmohamadi and based in the English Department at La Trobe University in Melbourne (funded 2010-2012 by the Australian Research Council). Now in its fourth year it has produced two books, a number of journal articles and book chapters, presentations and talks.

This page seeks to illuminate the process of collaborative writing and thinking about reading and Victorian literature, by tracking the fortunes of the next book from the project, and inviting an active readership to respond to the text and ideas in the way that Victorian readers did.
